Sandcasting is the Navajo technique of using packed sand, or sand-like material (often Portland cement and motor oil) as a mold. The sand-like material is pack around a “model piece” that is removed, leaving an impression, that is then filled with molten silver.
This piece was acquired from a second-hand collection (i.e.-estate sale), who collected Native American Jewelry and art in the 1980’s.
