Yvonne Nashboo is the daughter of Eva and William Nashboo who lives on the Zuni Pueblo and is a member of the Eagle Clan. She learned pottery-making from Tammy Belson. Yvonne has been active since 1995 and creates polychrome redware effigy pots, seed bowls, vases and miniatures. You can learn more about Yvonne in Gregory Schaff's Southern Pueblo Pottery: 2,000 Artist Summaries.

When the Zuni make pottery, they gather their clay from the nearby Pueblo and use crushed pottery shards or rocks to temper it. Afterwards, their vessels are crafted using the traditional coil and scrape method and then the pieces are polished and painted prior to firing. Firing takes place in outdoor fires and sometimes with the use of manure as fuel.

This highly polished piece of redware pottery is a sought-after design from artist Yvonne Nashboo. She creates her pieces using traditional methods. The lizard-design is quintessential Zuni and Yvonne enhances it with her trademark raised pattern and precise paint-work. This vase would make a welcome addition to any collection!
